“I wouldn’t say I redefined my Malay identity, instead I learnt from past generations and followed their ways. A great example of this would be learning from iconic 50s Malay film stars such as Saloma and Maria Menado. They were a part of a select group of Malay women whose identity evolved into modern Malay women through a change of lifestyles and careers while still retaining their culture, tradition and morals. I feel that they successfully redefined the Malay identity through embracing hybridity. This is one valuable trait that we should never ever change. "
